If you dug a tunnel from the top of the earth to the bottom

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-08-29] [Hit: ]
if you had the hole running from one pole to the other, you could jump in , fall to the centre, then slow down all the way up to the opposite pole where you will come to a stop just at thesurface, then fall back to endlessly repeat in Simple harmonic Motion with a period of about 84 minutes. The hole should not go from one side of the equator to the other because the coriolis force would cause you to repeatedly bang into the sides of the hole as you were falling.......
assume that there is insulation to protect u from the heat but if you jumped down the at the top when you reach the bottom would you continue falling straight into space or would gravity pull you back down and if it does would you be floating in mid air in the tunnel?

This is a classic question, covered in many text-book.
Setting aside all the practical problems, if you had the hole running from one pole to the other, you could jump in , fall to the centre, then slow down all the way "up" to the opposite pole where you will come to a stop just at the surface, then fall back to endlessly repeat in Simple harmonic Motion with a period of about 84 minutes.

The hole should not go from one side of the equator to the other because the coriolis force would cause you to repeatedly bang into the sides of the hole as you were falling.

You would go back and forth, as if you were attached to a giant spring. If you actually bother to work out how the gravitational field varies as you fall into the earth, you would find that gravity acts as a linear restoring force, and thus you would become a simple harmonic oscillator if you jumped into the pit. It's a very entertaining problem.

See its how gravity works, its the centre of earth which attracts u towards it.
so if u reach the other end the centre is gonna attract u again towards it.

and anothr important things is that the magnitude of earths gravitational pull on u decreases as u move inside earth and eventually becomes zero at the centre.

Oh I sooo asked the same question to my family before, they all looked at me like I lost my mind.
any way I thought you would just keep falling forever though I actually have never tested this theory, Some one should so try it.

you would get stick in the middle i guess? center of all the gravity?
