the other car is moving in the negative direction and has a velocity of -25m/s.Then,......
You're in a car that's travelling at 25 m/s and there's an oncoming car travelling at 25 m/s as well.
Does it seem like the car coming at you is driving at a speed of 50 m/s? Why?

Hi.

Mathematically, relative velocity = V1 - V2

Don't forget that velocity has speed AND direction.

So, taking your car to be moving in the positive direction, the other car is moving in the negative direction and has a velocity of -25m/s.

Then, V1 - V2 = (+25m/s) - ( -25m/s)
= 25 +25
= 50 m/s
