centripetal pendulum question HELP PLEASE !!?
A string pendulum 1.12 m long has a bob with a mass of 200 g.
a) what is the tension in the string when the pendulum is at rest? (SOLVED) =
1.96 N
b) what is the tension at the bottom of the string, if the pendulum is moving at 1.2 m/s?

answers:
oubaas say: a) what is the tension in the string when the pendulum is at rest?
T = m*g = 0.2*9.8 = 1.96 N
b) what is the tension at the bottom of the string, if the pendulum is moving at 1.2 m/s?
T = m(g+V^2/ℓ) = 0.2(9.8+1.2^2/1.12) = 2.22 N

electron1 say: I agree with the first answer. When a pendulum is moving at a constant speed, there must be a centripetal force.

Fc = 0.2 * 1.2^2 ÷ 1.12 = 0.288 ÷ 1.12

This is approximately 0.257 N. The tension is the sum of the weight of the bob and the centripetal force.

T = 1.96 + 0.288 ÷ 1.12
This is approximately 2.22 N. I hope this is helpful for you.

Whome say: the string must support the weight of the pendulum and also provide the needed centripetal force to keep the bob on a circular path

T = m(g + v²/r)

T = 0.200(9.81 + 1.2²/1.12)
T = 2.21914...
T = 2.22 N

I hope this helps.
