in relativity can 4 apples equal 5 pearsa?

answers:
Andrew Smith say: Events must be the same in all frames of reference.
They can change in the ORDER of what happens. But the event itself cannot change.
Therefore 4 apples cannot become 5 pears.

It might be that in one frame of reference you see the greengrocer hand someone 4 apples AND THEN hand them 5 pears.
But another observer swears that the pears were handed over FIRST.
This is possible.

Yet they both must agree that 4 apples and 5 pears were handed over.

Neb,
I neglected to point out how POSITION is relevant to this in an attempt to simplify the point.
At uni a paradox was posed. There is a 10 foot long barn and a sixteen foot long pole.
The pole is charged at the barn which has doors at the far end closed. Now the pole smashes through the doors at the far end and THEN the doors behind him are closed.

Ok now from the perspective of the person on the doors the pole has shrunk due to relativity. So at some point the pole is inside the barn with the door shut behind it.

Did the pole fit or not?

Only if you take the totality does the answer become clear. From one perspective the barn doors are smashed first and then the other doors closed.
From the other view the door is closed behind the pole and THEN the far door is smashed.

So they both agree on what happens but not the order in which they happen.
Which made the idea that the pole fitted inside the barn an irrelevancy.
That was the point I was trying to suggest in the above.
It does not violate causality. One action did not cause the other. The actions did happen but we can disagree on the order i.e. the meaning of "simultaneity".

J say: Relatively speaking 4 large apples are the same 5 small pearsas.

TardisAndTheHare say: When we look at stars, we see them as they were, when light was emitted from them many years ago. That is because it takes light many years to travel from the stars to us. Similarly, we might look at 4 apples, but if they were far away, we wouldn't see those apples until many years elapsed. There might have been 5 pears there many years ago. That means that we could look at 4 apples and see 5 pears. ANSWER: Yes.

say: Give me one pearsa so I can test.
-
david say: No. 4 apples = 5 bananas, not 5 pears
-
Kt Skycat say: Peeled, cored, and boiled in separate pans, use less water in the pears to cook them, then blend both into sauce. The mass then equals the same. Only the flavor is different.

No Chance Without Jesus say: if you could somehow transform the apples into pears with the same total mass Yes
