so it might get one 4-billionth of the energy.Plus, it gets hit with that energy over a period of hours, instead of seconds like in a nuclear explosion.-They are still standing do to their structure. The way that they are designed allows them to get pushed by high winds and remain unharmed.......
A hurricane releases more energy in 10 minutes than all the world's nuclear weapons combined.

Why aren't New York's skyscrapers wiped off the map?

-
Why should they be wiped off? The energy of the hurricane was spread over more than a million square miles. Even a big skyscraper takes up less than 1/4000 of a square mile, so it might get one 4-billionth of the energy. Plus, it gets hit with that energy over a period of hours, instead of seconds like in a nuclear explosion.

They are still standing do to their structure. The way that they are designed allows them to get pushed by high winds and remain unharmed. Plus, Sandy was downgraded from a hurricane to a super storm meaning that it was not necessarily as strong as a typical hurricane although it still was able to reek mass havoc.

-
because the skycrapers are built to withstand a hurricane

hurricanes do release a lot of energy (I don't know whether or not it has the same energy as all the worlds nukes) but that energy is spread out over a very large area, this one was unusually large, over 1000 miles acros.

My scraper's apartment walls swayed a bit, but of course it didn't get knocked down. The high gusts did not sustain for more than a few seconds at a time, plus there wasn't enough pointed energy (it was dispersed). It'd take a LOT to knock one of these big ones out via wind.

energy distributed over 1,000s square miles in hours not in microseconds of blast
towers are designed for maximum side load winds of hundreds of mph

sandy was a big storm but a very small hurricane

maybe cause it is not the end of the world yet? Learn something new every day . And they put children on Ritalin ?
