How to walk the dog in an ice storm

Its sleeting and raining out and the roads are super icy. Usually if I yell at my dog hell listen to me and stay by my side but its hard to get him to listen. I plan on wearing a down coat and a hoodie, sweat pants, with track pants over top, and really warm socks and my doc martens as well as a hat and gloves and a scarf.......
I have a golden retriever and he has to be walked twice a day and its my turn (my mom does it in the morning.) We don't have a fence and we live around a lake. I would make my mom do it but she broke her arm and doesn't have very good balance. The dog is very hyper and will pull you to any smell, which doesn't usually bother me but I don't want to fall. Are there ANY tips for doing this safely? We have to walk about half a mile.

just let him poop in the backyard, and keep him close to you with a tight leash. I find that it is often much easier to walk on grassy surfaces where there is more traction, avoiding slippery sidewalks.

you aren't walking a half a mile in conditions today. not only is it unsafe, but your dog might be suspicious of the cold white stuff and want to hurry up and get out of there.

Just like you don't HAVE to go to school if the weather is bad, the dog doesn't HAVE to be walked if the weather is bad. It's not going to hurt you to let the dog out to do his business and then back in. You don't have to follow the same routine ALL the time. You can make exceptions on bad days.
