Geometry of the universe

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-08-18] [Hit: ]
As I said, the people you need to be looking at are Friedmann, Lemaitre, Robertson, and Walker. Specifically Friedmann.......
Could someone please direct me to where i can find anything about the HISTORY of the geometry (curvature) of the universe. As in WHEN it was thought to be OPEN and WHEN it was thought to be CLOSED before we came to a conclusion that it's flat. I can't seem to find anything on the matter...

I already feel I gave a pretty good response in your prior question but I can add a little more. As I said, the people you need to be looking at are Friedmann, Lemaitre, Robertson, and Walker. Specifically Friedmann. It was their work that showed the universe could be open or closed (or flat). At no time did any of them think one over the other though. However their work was done in the 20s and 30s. You might be able to find a few (old) sources which state they think the universe is open and a few (old) sources which state that it is closed. However, since this problem was posed in the 20s and 30s, no one could say anything definite. It is not the scientific way to make claims based on no evidence so no one seriously took sides. As I said in my other answer. It has only been in the past decade or so that we have gotten enough evidence to give a real answer to this decades old question.

Edit: @Hal 9000: That doesn't pertain to his question. It is a mathematical history of hyperbolic geometry, not about the cosmological history of space.

The Universe is a finite conservative system.
The Geometry of the Universe has been for the first time in history mapped as per the Planck telescope.
The Universe does not appear flat.

I amazes me that people are too lazy to type things they want to find out about INTO A GOOGLE SEARCH BOX ALL BY THEMSELVES. Spoiled lazy brats who refuse to use and exercise their minds AND THEIR FINGERS, yet they can post questions on YA all day long.

It's probably a sphere.

Edit: Feb. 17, 1998 is before. See link below.

Our universe is probably a spherical arrangement that continuously maps and vanishes like an escherisk packing problem.

I saw aa very good program on TV show called "Threw the Wormhole" with morgan freemen.V
Space geometry was highlighted.
