What the difference between a comet and a meteor

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-09-05] [Hit: ]
-Comets are slow-moving large bodies of dirty ice, at least several hundred metres in diameter, which are in orbit around the Sun. When they come close to the Sun, the ice sublimes and forms a coma and sometimes a tail. Meteors are caused by tiny fragments of rock and dust which enter Earths atmosphere at high speed and heat the atmosphere to glow with their passing.......
Always wonder what was the difference.

Meteors are the streaks of light we see in the sky when a small piece of space debris burns up in our atmosphere from friction.

Comets are objects in space that display long tails of dust and ionized gas when they near the sun.

Comets are slow-moving large bodies of "dirty ice," at least several hundred metres in diameter, which are in orbit around the Sun. When they come close to the Sun, the ice sublimes and forms a coma and sometimes a tail. Meteors are caused by tiny fragments of rock and dust which enter Earth's atmosphere at high speed and heat the atmosphere to glow with their passing. Meteors are usually visible for no more than a second or two, whereas comets are visible for weeks or months.

The main diff. Betweem both of them is that comet also revolve around a fix path in fix interval just like HELLY COMET which can be seen at the interval of 76 years

whereas meteors r the rock peices which use to float in the sky and and can be seen only when it comes into atmosphere due to gravity

Most meteors hang out in a belt between Mars and Jupiter. and stay there. They are either iron-nickel or silica rock in composition. they leave a visin=ble tail or streak when they enter the earth's atmosphere

Comets orbit the sun on a different path than the planets and meteors. and hang out way beyond Pluto. They are ice balls 5-10 km in diameter. They have a tail of water vapor and dust that is visible as they near the sun. The tail is formed from the solar wind and pointd away from the sun.

comets are ice and meteors are rock.
