My 5 inch SCT telescope is too heavy for me to carry

http://www.astronomics.com/main/product.should provide a stable mount. However, you will be sacrificing motorized tracking and you will have to adjust the motion in both axis manually as the object of observation moves out of the field of view (because of Earths rotation).......
I don't get much use out of it because it is an effort to carry it outside. it is on a heavy tripod and german equatorial mount. celestron omni xlt 127. is it worth buying a lighter mount

If you get a lighter mount make sure you don't compromise on stability. Stability is usually the reason mounts are made heavy to begin with. A well made Alt-Azimuth mounting such as the Vixen Porta-mount II

or Astro-Tech Voyager

should provide a stable mount. However, you will be sacrificing motorized tracking and you will have to adjust the motion in both axis manually as the object of observation moves out of the field of view (because of Earth's rotation). They WILL be lighter than the equatorial mount, at least in part because of the lack of need for counterweights.

I hope you understand that NEITHER of the mounts I cited were Dobsonian.

If it is a burden to carry around, I would get a new lighter mount so that it is easier to carry and use.

-
no. a lighter mount won't be as stable.

why not trade it for a nice dob? i trot my 12" dob outside on a hand truck, and can be observing in 90 seconds, without challenging my girly muscles.

-
Why not set up the tripod outside on its own and then take the actual telescope out separately.
