Do you think that people lack the understanding of technology, the universe and science which makes their lives what it is today? Furthermore, do you think society lacks the desire to learn science - the reality of life?

Society is very ignorant. Most people could care less about understanding how the universe works in a world that emphasizes entertainment and making paychecks. People don't see the beauty in nature, they don't see that it is complex and that there is so much to learn about the universe, they don't understand the science and laborious efforts and the historical significance that give them the technology that they use everyday.

Society does lack a desire to learn science... as I've stated before, the entertainment industry and paychecks practically consume and control most people. Most people lack the desire because they lack the curiosity to delve deeper into things and question.

It's nothing new. Technology (in any form) can be held as knowledge by just a few people "in the know". Which is how governments, guilds and religious societies have operated for generations.

These days, knowledge is available to anyone who puts forth the effort to act on their curiosity. You can gain some of that knowledge through self study, but mostly folks do go to school for further training on subjects that they are interested in.

One side effect of this however, is that people consider themselves to "dumb" to learn or the way technical subjects are taught, can be boring and don't hold interest in anyone but a few.

The really sad part is getting picked on for being smart and wanting to learn by your peer group.

Some people do, i wouldn't say all. A lot of people are starting to put their interest in science and technology because i mean look at how cars are made, washing machines and other things. People get interested in how its being made and actually works. While others well don't really are, they wait for other to invent and they use the invention but never wonder how just incredible it is in how it was made.
