Hey, I don't know if you've heard but apparently there's a big solar storm heading for Earth. I am crapping it. I really don't know why I read these things but one website that has been recording the sun's activity etc has said that there will be a massive solar storm on 21.12.12 which is the date the world is supposed to end. Apparently earth is going to go through a milky way rift thing and we could see alot of damage being done and potentially killing millions. Everyone was saying that if a solar storm did occur, it would take out power grids and transformers which could take up to 5 years to repair. What will we do for food? Water? Everyone is going to go crazy. Eugh, i'm really scared!:(

Well, they do happen pretty much all the time... like three per week during the solar minimum and up to three per day during the solar maximum. We've been hit by them many times this year already.

That's funny, considering that we can't reliably predict solar storms beyond about a week in advance. We can observe current sunspot activity and infer whether any of them can generate a coronal mass ejection, but that's pretty much it.
Also, there's many dates on which the world is supposed to end. I don't know if you've noticed this, but there is literally always some simpleton screeching that the end is nigh. They've even turned it into a lucrative business model.
