Is it possible to terraform Planet Mercury If we had a way of putting the same atmosphere we have on earth to

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-08-18] [Hit: ]
it still wouldnt be habitable, partly because of its proximity to the sun, partly because of its very long days and nights, and partly because its very weak magnetic field (and proximity to the sun, again) make it an unattractive place to be radiologically.-No,......
cover planet Mercury

I know we can't put an Earth like atmosphere on mercury with our current technology.

BUT my question is if we could put an earthlike atmosphere on Planet Mercury could we terraform Mercury

-
Not possible at all. Anything placed on Mercury will be instantly burned up.
Any life forms even close to Mercury would be killed by radiation from the Sun.

Mercury is way to close to the sun to even approach.

-
No, for a variety of reasons. These include:

1 The planet is not massive enough to retain an earth-like atmosphere, even it was given one to start with.

2 This is especially true as the Mercurian day is very hot and very l-o-n-g. Although atmospheres are good at equalising daytime and nighttime temperatures to a degree, Mercury would make the task really, really hard.

In any case, even if Mercury did have an earth-like atmosphere, it still wouldn't be habitable, partly because of its proximity to the sun, partly because of its very long days and nights, and partly because its very weak magnetic field (and proximity to the sun, again) make it an unattractive place to be radiologically.

No, not really. Mercury doesn't have enough gravity to hold much of an atmosphere--plus it's scoured by the solar wind and the planet lacks an appreciable magnetic field, which would help protect an atmosphere if it did have one.

Temperature extremes on Mercury are a serious problem, since it rotates only one and a half times each time it goes around the Sun, IIRC (though it doesn't always have the same side facing the Sun as we previously thought).

It would be much more feasible to terraform Mars, but even that's well beyond our current level of technology.

-
No. It will always have very low gravity. You may be able to put sunshades around it to shield it from the solar wind and filter out most of the light but that would be a monumental task and you still have the low gravity to worry about.

We shouldn't colonize the planets, we should colonize space in space habitats such as O'Neill cylinders, Bernal Spheres, Stanford Torus's and hollowed asteroids. We can have much more Earth like environments in the habitats and they would be less expensive and available sooner than terraforming planet, they have easy transportation without a planetary gravity well, and they have access to the resources of asteroids and comets. The planets should be left uncontaminated for research and whatever life they may have.

-
It is way too close to sun, so temperature and radiation would make terraforming impossible.

-
Even if we can,it's almost impossible to live there. At least for one reasons:
Its temp changes,between -180_430 C. It's too hot.Isn't it?:)

-
No.

Why are people so obsessed with terraforming?!
