The moon has many impact craters. Why doesn’t Earth’s surface show the same violent history as the moon’s surface?

answers:
Adullah M say: The atmosphere of earth act as shield to protect any intruders to penetrate in to our earth surface, as we call Van Allen belt.
-
Sam say: They get covered up here on earth, remember most of our planet is water.
-
Snowwie888 say: One word: EROSION

There is no weather on the Moon, no flowing water, no wind. The only kind of 'erosion' the moon has, is the occasional impact of an asteroid.
-
Jeffrey K say: The earth gets hit by more meteors then the moon because earth's gravity is stronger. But earth has rain, rivers, wind, earthquakes, volcanos. These cover up most of the creators.
-
Alexander say: Most meteorites burn up in our atmosphere. There are visible craters around the Earth, but most of the Earth is ocean and others get obscured over the millennia by erosion or vegetation.
-
poldi2 say: The Earth has weather, the moon doesn't.
The Earth has life, the moon doesn't.
Both life and weather change the surface of the Earth fairly quickly.
The Earth is mostly water, the moon is all rock.
-
Bill-M say: It does if you know where to look. The main reason is we have Weather, Water, Storms. Erosion, which the moon does not have.
You want to see an Impact Crater? Go to Winslow Arizona.
-
MysteryGuy say: earth atmosphere protects
-
billrussell42 say: The atmosphere, plus volcanic action, plus water erosion (rain) erased them.
-
charlie say: U888
-
say: Because most meteors know not to mess with us. Earth fights back.
-
Acetek say: it does show a violent past. you just need to know where to look.
they just recently found a large impact crater in Greenland.
-
CarolOklaNola say: Earth has an atmosphere, weather and EROSION is why. Earth also has tectonics and continental drift. Most people cannot tell the difference between a volcanic crater and an impact crater. On Earth, impact craters get infilled by sediments from mechanical and chemical erosion, get destroyed water chemical mechanics and wind erosion, and get subducted.

Over a thousand impact craters in Earth have been identified so far, but it is often disputed whether they are impact or volcanic craters.

Many meteors and meteoroids burn up in Earth's atmosphere and do not last long enough to impact and become meteoroids with impact craters.
-
martin say: Earth has atmosphere (air) which causes the incoming meteor to burn up from the friction. The moon doesn't have air.
