Could a spacecraft be able to survive the heat of the sun if it was able to maintain an orbit that kept itself on the dark side of Mercury?

answers:
Gordon B say: There has been probes that went to mercury, Mariner 10 (1974), messenger (2011) and in future bepicolombo due to arrive 2022
-
Dan say: Easily....freezing would be a bigger concern in this scenario.
-
ngc7331 say: if you kept a spacecraft permanently in the shade of Mercury, then you don't have to worry too much about being able to survive prolonged exposure to the sun's heat. your concern will need to be more extreme cold.
-
JosephV say: Space crafts can survive radiation from Sun provided they do not get too close to it. Even an astronomer's suit will give protection from the radiations during space walks.
-
Acetek say: yes. we have sent probes there .
plus there is a probe on its way to a close encounter of the Sun.
