In case Earth fails due to climate change, should humans start searching for nearby habitable planets to colonize?

answers:
Will say: Inhabiting a new planet will never happen because of these reasons:
• We do not have the amount of natural resources necessary to build large ships like you see in movies.
• Traveling as fast or faster than light is not possible for any spacecraft we could build.
• Research done by numerous countries has proven that nothing can protect us from radiation out in space like our atmosphere can. It will manage to enter spacecraft.
• Research done by numerous countries has proved that being in zero gravity can speed up the process of methylation. Zero gravity can also alter one's genes.
• Research done by numerous countries has proved that our immune systems will weaken due to not being exposed to the naturally occurring bacteria on a daily basis like we are on Earth during the journey. We will have next to no immune system left after being in space for 10 years straight.

It's just not practical. It could be possible, but more than half of the human population will be left to die on Earth while the choosen ones get to inhabit our red neighbor at the very least.

mikeburns55 say: Even the most crazy Al-Gore like predictions don't say that the Earth will be completely uninhabitable. Maybe some areas (like the Sahara) will be worse and not habitable, but other areas will still have lots of life.
-
Ronald 7 say: Truthfully yes
But the question is how near is near ??
-
William say: The Earth is 5 billion years old and our Sun has another 5 billion years. It has gone through radical changes in its history, from the carboniferous era, to ice ages, to hot spells.

Venus is thick with CO2 clouds and sulfuric acid. Mars is bombarded with cosmic radiation. Earth is teeming with life for a reason.
-
ocularnervosa say: The nearest potentially habitable planet would take 100,000 years to reach.
-
Pearl say: that would be really hard, its not like we have transportation to get there
-
Jim2 say: We already know there are none nearby. Mars is the closest. It has an atmosphere mostly of.. guess... carbon dioxide!

However, there is semi serious speculation we could actually put MORE greenhouse gases in mars atmosphere, making it warm enough to grow plants which would convert some of this co2 into oxygen. Semi-serious. I can't see it working.

oikoσ say: So we can crap up a second planet?
-
Leo say: We have yet to find one, let alone have the ability to get there.
-
The Illustrious Potentate say: Earth has gone through climate change since the beginning of time and it’s not failed yet.

NiJo say: Climate change is a cult. Call me an idiot now.
-
jonathon say: It’s not theoretically possible to colonise another planet due to us not having the technology to reach planets that have an atomosphere that contains O2 and due to one more factor that I won’t elaborate on
-
Bill-M say: There are NO nearby habitable planets.
-
Judy & Charlie say: Here is a BETTER idea.
Let's just take over and turn things around so that our Earth doesn't fail!
-
Frank say: Oh please do detail how a planet "fails". PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE!!! Our planet has been around for 4.55 BILLION years. It has about 5 Billion more years to go until the sun turns into a RED DWARF and the planet is engulfed.

And how do you explain of the last 100,000 years, 95,000 of them WERE WARMER...which seems to be a PROBLEM that LEFTISTS want to DUMP onto a pathetic greenhouse gas known as CO2. It is measured in PARTS PER MILLION and it FEEDS OUR PLANTS. And this alleged warming in the last spurt we had ENDED in 1998. So WHAT is DRIVING CLIMATE CHANGE??? PLEASE TELL US. Is it the CO2? WHAT?
-
say: We must prepare to find alien life there and have a plan of removing the alien inhabitants so we can move there instead.
-
Christian sinner say: So what you want. The earth is not going to fail because of Climate Change.
-
☣ - ₲ⱠɆ₦Đ₳ - ☣ say: Any that would be habitable are too far away for us to reach with our current technology.
-
Romano Vargas say: In my humble opinion if we cannot take care of this planet we do not have the right to colonize habitable planets.
-
They Pelted Us With Rocks And Garbage say: It'd be easier to terraform the Earth than another world.

Zardoz say: It would be far easier and cheaper to correct a comparatively minor environmental imbalance on Earth than to get to and terraform an alien world.
