I could see how it's free blood flow because gravity allows blood to flow to the lower extremities, but the heart also forces blood flow to areas of the body.

Technically it's both, because gravity does play a role in it. But really it's forced convection, since the heart is pumping the blood using vacuum/pressure physics. Blood vessels can also expand or contract to change the blood pressure.
