What signs would you expect to observe in Ivan as a result of organophosphates poisoning? Thanks for helping me out-Acetylcholineesterase is an enzyme that breaks down Acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that causes your muscles to contract. So if an organophosphate stopped the enzyme from breaking down Acetylcholine, then the body cant get rid of it and Ivan will experience muscle spasms, technically a thing called tetanus which is basically that your muscles cant stop contracting.......
Many potent insecticides contain toxins, called organophosphates, that interfere with the action of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. Ivan is using an insecticide containing organophosphates and is very careless. Because he does not use gloves or a dust mask, he absorbs some of the chemical through his skin and inhales a large amount as well. What signs would you expect to observe in Ivan as a result of organophosphates poisoning? Thanks for helping me out

Acetylcholineesterase is an enzyme that breaks down Acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that causes your muscles to contract. So if an organophosphate stopped the enzyme from breaking down Acetylcholine, then the body can't get rid of it and Ivan will experience muscle spasms, technically a thing called 'tetanus' which is basically that your muscles can't stop contracting.

It also affects the diaphragm and stops it from being able to relax, so Ivan will may well start to suffocate.

Finally, acetylcholine is the major neurotransmitter for the parasympathetic nervous system (the 'rest and digest' part) and it stimulates it. Activation of the parasympathetic nervous system can cause low blood pressure, a slower than normal heart rate and narrowing of the airways.
