I can only tell you what I have learned about my own stress and how relates to your issue. If this helps great if not it must be the stress. Sorry had to say it.
A Little background to help you in judging my qualifications to answer your query.
I am legally blind. Have been losing sight function for over twenty six years. Happened in an industrial accident which led to the most incredible pain and stress due to pain. Unable to work because the disease I contracted from the particles that entered my eyes make it impossible to work in any setting. This has made my marriage surprisingly better because my wife is understanding and after 36 years of marriage one tends to be more accepting or in many cases other than my own, can lead to an unstable relationship and more often than not, divorce. This a statement of fact gleaned from college courses about just this type of subject.
Having said that it does not alleviate the guilt, shame and all around feelings of uselessness. I have seen and continue to see psychologist, GP, eye specialist, and anyone else that may be able to help.
I think from what I have said it does in many respects make me quite knowledgeable about stress in all forms and qualified to help answer your question But please understand that much of what I say comes about from life experience.
