Same-sex reproduction: lesbians having sons

I've been doing some research on the newly discovered methods on in-vitro fertilization for same-sex couples. In case you are not familiar with this concept, what they do is... say in a lesbian couple, both females donate an egg, and they find a donor sperm as well. The first egg stays the same. The sperm has its dna/chromosomes/whatever extracted and replaced with the dna/chromosomes/whatnot from the second egg. Then the sperm has the second female's DNA and it fertilizes the first female's egg, thus creating a biological child with two mothers.

However, I've read that only gay couples can have either a son or a daughter, and that lesbian couples can only have daughters, due to the chromosomes they possess. The gay couple each has XY chromosomes, allowing both XX and XY combinations (the YY ones are discarded). The lesbian couple both have XX chromosomes, meaning there could never be an XY combination.

My question is this: Would it be possible in the future for lesbian couples to have biological MALE children? Could they alter the chromosomes somehow to allow for a son to be made? Is there any research currently being done on this, or is it a far-fetched idea?

If they wanted a son, they would need to use the DNA from a sperm since that contains the male Y chromosome (well half of them do!!). That would mean that only one of the women would be a biological mother to the child.

I expect it would be possible, though as one of the other responses pointed out -perhaps not ehtical to alter the egg by adding just a Y chromosome in place of the existing X.

Given the sensitive nature of this, any research being done is likely to be somewhat secretive, perhaps looking at something different - like the gene that leads to Cystic fibrosis but once the technique works could be transferred to this application.

That's crazy! I never knew that could even be possible. That's super interesting. I think they would definitely be able to have male babies in the future because at the speed and rate of the development of all these new ideas and methods, anything seems almost possible, it just takes time.

Is mutating a child morally right? No. They don't have it yet and probably wont

-
wow, no.
