I have no idea what this is! It never explains it in our text books and I cant even find it on Google. Can somebody help and explain it? Thanks guys ten points best answer?-I hate fill-ins because they are so arbitrary. This could be several things.......
The seahorse is an unusual example of a(an)________ species because the male incubates the eggs in a pouch before giving birth to fully formed live offspring.

I hate fill-ins because they are so arbitrary. This could be several things. Seahorses are a type of pipefish; they are a sexual species (having male and female), they are monogamous (they mate for life), they are a fish species..take your pick. The bottom line is that these are sexually reproducing fish where the female transfers the fertilized eggs into the male's pouch, and he incubates the eggs and gives birth to the young, which is very rare. He fertilizes the female's eggs, but she does not lay them or brood them; he does.
Don't mistake this pouch for marsupials like kangaroos. Those are mammals, and the female does incubate the young; this is a completely different situation. These are fish, even though they don't look much like fish, so the pouch does not make them marsupials!
My best answer is that the seahorse is an unusual example of a FISH species; that's the word I'd use based on the information given. Again, I never gave fill-ins because there is often more than one acceptable answer and without context (I'm not in your class and didn't hear your teacher's explanation about this), I can only give you my best educated guess on what your teacher wants here, but I think "fish" might fill the bill.

My answer would be viviparous as seahorses give birth to live young. Fishes often just lay eggs and live bearers are in the minority. The fact that males have the pregnancy is interesting but not really what the question is about.

Beautiful and fascinating animals though.

From the question, the answer you want is clearly ovo-viviparous (see link). The answer must relate to the "because" clause in the question.
