Do bonds have energy in them? Is energy released or needed with bond formation

...hope it will help-its both. you need energy to bond, and energy to break.......
How about when bonds are broken? Thanks

-
yes!because bond means attraction, when a bond is formed between atoms the nuclear attraction between them increases and distance between nucleus and outer most shell decreases due to attraction of bond, thus the energy must b released in order to compensate and when bond is broken,it requires energy because again the nuclear attraction will decrease and distance between nucleus and valence shell will increase....hope it will help
