I personally don't even care about yahoo answers board. I just enjoy for my own curiosity and entertainment to answer questions.
I've also learned, since you don't get feedback from the board or get your points back, I immediately find the question that was asked and turn it around and file an abuse on the question they asked. You don't need a reason. Just check the dot that says"I think this question violates community guidelines". It is childish and stupid, I know. But I get some smug satisfaction from it
And don't give up. I see you on here all the time and you are one of the brains on here. In fact if I see you answered a question, I don't even try to answer it because I know you already did it and most certainly gave the right answer.
just to add to the others..
First.. there are a group of people writing answers here who are knowledgeable in the field and donate their time to help students learn chemistry. You're included in that group. And like the rest of us your help is appreciated by some, simply used by others, and ridiculed by a few. That's the nature of this board.
Then there are some people who are truly a nuisance here. You should expect that. Some ask questions about how to make drugs or explosives. Some get angry about getting thumbs down when they write bad answers. Some write derogatory remarks about the instructors because of their own experiences in school. Some think it's funny and get their kicks out of giving thumbs down and or reporting abuse. I've had my share of people following me around to bug me. We all have. Best thing you can do? Ignore them an move on.
Think about it like this. If you connect and help out 1 student.. is that worth your time? what about 2? Because what I see is this. I get about 1/10 that say thank you and sincerely appreciate the help. And I answer about a dozen or so questions a day. So I like to think I'm having an impact on at least 1 persons life each day.
