What is phosphorus used for

Can someone please tell me the great uses of phosphorus.. Or send me helpful links if you like...But I would highly appreciate it if the answers were detailed.. Thank you.

Most importantly it is a very important element of DNA. It is also found in bones.
(Did you know that it is the second most abundant mineral in our body).

The element itself is used in matches, and as a reagent.

Phosphorus compounds are used as:
fertilizers (plants need phosphate to grow),
pesticides, (e.g. malathion)
drugs, (e.g. Fosamax)
etc. (e.g. Sarin nerve gas)

DNA is also a phosphorus compound.
ATP, the energy "currency" of the cell, is a phosphorus compound.
