You'll usually get one negative answer and one positive answer. Because we're adding X to the 0moles of the product, x must be positive because we can't have negative moles. Sometimes doing these kinds of problems, you'll get a number like 8.2, which, in this scenario (continued)

would give you 6-2(8.2) which gives you negative reactant moles.
