Like the one in Gulf of Mexico or any major oil spills?

Yes it is very likely.

The biggest threat to Oil companies is the wear and tear of the pipes. Over time these pipes corrode and in the Economy we have today these companies try to cut down in their maintenance budget to save money and over time these pipes will blow releasing the oil and having a major oil spill like in the Gulf of Mexico.
