Kelly and Ken are on their way to visit a zoo in Miami over Spring Break.

While looking at the train schedule at the train station, they run into two friends who are also trying to visit the zoo. There are two trains leaving Tuesday morning. Train A leaves at 6:30 a.m., going 45 miles per hour and Train B leaves the same station on a parallel track at 8:45 a.m., and travels at a speed of 60 miles per hour.

The friends decide to take the earlier train because they believe it will get them into Miami faster. But Kelly and Ken realize in fact that they can sleep later and still beat their friends to Miami. They calculate the minute in which their train will pass their friends. They plan to wave and yell, “Bon Voyage!”, to their friends as they pass them on the tracks.

At what time will they direct their friends to look out the window so that they can see Kelly and Ken going by?

Train A: 45mph, leaves at 6,30 am
Train B: 60mph, leaves at 8,45 am
Train A has a head start of 2h 15 mins, traveling at 45mph that means it is 101.25 miles away when train B departs.
The speed diferential is 15mph. How long will it take for train B to catch up is equal to the time it would take a 101.25 mile trip going at 15mph so, 101.25 divided by 15 is 6.75 hours, change that to hours and minuets an you have 6h 45 mins.
8,45 am plus 6h and 45mins gives you 1530 hours or 3:30 PM.
