?2x = 3100 hence x = 1550 thats the loser votes and winners vote will be 1550 + 160 = 1710 votes-first remove 160 votes from total which wining candidate got.3260 - 160 - 3100.Loosing candidate got 1550 votes-Ok this is how I would do it.1550+160=1710 votes received the winning candidate.1550 votes received thelosing candidate.......
In an election, the winning candidate had 160 more votes than the loser. If the total number of votes cast was 3260, how many votes did each candidate receive?

-
x = candidate A
X + 160 = candidate B

X + (X + 160) = 3260
2X + 160 = 3260
2X + 160 - 160 = 3260 - 160
2X = 3100
Divide by 2 on both sides
X = 1550 = candidate A
1550 + 160 =1710 = candidate B

-
3260-160=3100
that is what they have in total when equal
3100/2=1550
so that is what the second candidate had
therefore
1550 is second
1550+160=1710 is winning candidate

-
if they got equal votes, then their double votes will be= (3260-160)= 3100
then one of them got= (3100/2)= 1550
therefore the candidate getting more vote= (1550+160)= 1710
isn't it very simple??

-
Answer;
If loser got x votes then winner got x +160 and both voters total equal to x + x + 160 = 3260
2x = 3100 hence x = 1550 thats the loser votes and winners vote will be 1550 + 160 = 1710 votes

-
first remove 160 votes from total which wining candidate got.

3260 - 160 - 3100.

divided by 2
3100/2 = 1550

Wining candidate got 1550 + 160 = 1710 votes
Loosing candidate got 1550 votes

-
Ok this is how I would do it.
3260-160=3100
3100/2=1550
1550+160=1710 votes received the winning candidate.
1550 votes received the losing candidate.

-
Say the loser got x votes so the winner got (160+x) votes

160+ x + x = 3260
2x = 3100
x = 1550

Loser got 1550 votes so winner got 160+1550=1710 votes

-
3260/2 = 1630
1630+(160/2) = winner = 1710
1630-(160/2) = loser = 1550

:)

-
Winning candidate is secured : 1790 votes
and Second candidate is secured : 1470 votes

-
2x + 160 = 3260
2x = 3420
x = 1710

One candidate had 1710 votes, the other had 1550 votes.

-
take away 160 from 3260 then divide by 2, then your answer will be there, add the 160 back on to the winning candidate and voila!

-
Let L be loser and W be winner.

W = L + 160

W + L = 3260
L + 160 + L = 3260
2L = 3100
L = 1550
W = 1710
