How do you work out 45% of this

if something originally costs £499 what would be its price when you take 45% off
please help - please show me how to work this out step by step don't just give the answer

To find a % of an amount you divide by 100 and times by the percentage amount (in this case 45).

£499 divided by 100 = 4.99
4.99x45= 224.55

£224.55 is 45%. Because you have to take it away, you do
£499-224.55= £274.45.

£274.45 would be the cost when 45 percent is taken off.

Everyone seems to be making it overly complicated...
If you want to find the xx% of something, just times the number you're finding the percent of by 0.xx

If you were finding 43% you'd multiply by 0.43
If you were finding 20% you'd multiply by 0.20
etc.
45% of £499:
£499 x 0.45 = £224.55

Then because in this question you're taking it off the starting price just subtract it.
£499 - £224.55 = £274.45

Per cent = 100

100 - 45 = 55

So to find out what 45% off is, just work out 55% of your original cost (499) 0.55x499

EDIT: £499 is 100%, right? And you're taking 45 percent off, which means THAT THE RESULT WILL BE 55% OF £499. So you have to work out 55% of £499 to get your answer.

0.55 x 499 = answer

Find out 10% which is £4.99

So you know that 5% is £2.49 ( half of 10%)

Then multiply £4.99 by 4 to get 40% which is £19.96

then add on 5% (£19.96+ £2.49) which equals £22.45

Then take this away from your original price

£499- 22.45

499 * 0.45 = the percent. Subtract this value from the original and you have your new price. In this case it's 499-224.5 which means the new price is 274.5.

45% of £499=(45/100)*£499=£224.55
the price when 45% is off=(£499-£224.55)=£274.45

45% of 499 is rougly equal to (45*499)/100 =225. You remain with 499-225=274 which is roughly 55% of 499

45% off on £499 means 499-(45/100)499......................... % means /100, off means minus
so, it is 499-224.55
=274.45
