Solve using the substitution method. Show your work. If the system has no solution or an infinite number of solutions, state this.
-3x + y = 4
x + 3y = 22

-
so let's use the first equation to get y, and then substitute y to the second equation

-3x + y = 4
y = 3x + 4

x+ 3y = 22
x + 3(3x + 4) = 22
x + 9x + 12 = 22
10x = 10
x = 1

y = 3x+ 4
y = 3+4 = 7

so the solution is x =1 and y=7

hope that helps :D

-
x + 3 ( 4 + 3x ) = 22

10 x = 10
x = 1

- 3 + y = 4
y = 7

x = 1 , y = 7
