1 each. Now we can say that they paid Rs 24 each (after getting the discount) .24 X 3 + 2(tip) = 74 and not 75 , where did the 1Rs go ?-This question is asked at least once every week. They paid Rs 70 in total,......
It might be old but if you could give me an answer , it will be helpful.
Suppose there is a bill of Rs 75 and 3 friends pay it equally i.e. 25 each. But there was a discount and they get Rs 5 back , they can't split them into 3 so they give rs 2 as tip and divide the Rs 3 equally i.e. 1 each.
Now we can say that they paid Rs 24 each (after getting the discount) . Now the problem is that
24 X 3 + 2(tip) = 74 and not 75 , where did the 1Rs go ?

This question is asked at least once every week.

They paid Rs 70 in total, and since 24×3 = 72, they did not pay Rs 24 each, only Rs 23 1/3. So there is no missing Rs 1, just a faulty assumption.

-
The actual amount that they are supposed to pay = 72 (70 + 2 tip).

Remember, the bill after discount costs 70 (75-5), and then after the confusion, they decide to give a $2 tip. So 70 + 2 = 72 total.

So the Rs 5 that they were supposed to get back actually turns to Rs 3 since they gave 2 extra for tip. Rs 3 split between 3 friends is 72 (24 + 24 + 24 = 72).

-
Actually they paid the bill Rs. 70 after discount.
so per head bill is = 70/3=23.3333
so the equation is
bill Rs. (23.3333*3) + refund Rs. 3 + Tip Rs. 2
=70+3+2
=75
