How do you solve this with subsitution? (alg. 1)

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-08-09] [Hit: ]
Thx.x = 220/23-You need to make a substitution. So that means you need to take one of the equations, and solve it for x or y, whichever you live. You then take whatever variable you solved for ( x or y) and plug that into the other equation.......
How do I solve this system of equations with substituion?
9x+10y=90
2x-8y=16

And can you please explain how to do it? I don't really get it

Thx.

-
9x+10y=90
2x-8y=16

9*x + 10*y = 90
x - 4*y = 8

x = 8 + 4*y

9*(8 + 4*y) + 10*y = 90

72 + 36*y + 10*y = 90

46*y = 18

y = 9/23

x = 8 + 4*y

x = 8 + 36/23

x = 220/23
