1. Mr and Mrs Pickford and their three children, Amanda aged 15 years, Benjamin aged 12 years and Chris aged 9 years, went on a holiday from England to France. They travelled on the 10.00 ferry from Folkestone to Boulogne on 1st August.

The questions are in the link.

-
a.
(i) They should have checked in at least 45 minutes before departure, which is 9:15 AM on August 1st.
(ii) The crossing takes an hour and 50 minutes, so they should have arrived at 11:50 AM on August 1st.

b.
10:00 AM on August 1st uses tariff rate C, so:
Their car is more than 4 meters long and less than 6, so the car and the driver costs 85 pounds.
Their towed caravan is more than 3 meters and less than 6, so it costs 20 pounds.
The other adult (whichever is not the driver) costs 13.50 pounds.
The student tariff isn't available for rate C, so Amanda counts as an adult, for 13.50 pounds..
Benjamin and Chris get the child rate of 8.50 pounds each.
Total = 85 + 20 + 13.50 + 13.50 + 8.50 + 8.50 = 149 pounds

c.
110 euros * (1 pound / 1.45 euros) = 75.86 pounds

d.
12 gallons * (4.5 liters / 1 gallon) * (1.20 euros / 1 liter) = 64.80 euros
