2/3 (2/2) - 1/2 (3/3)[This is the step where you get the denominators the same,Your answer is 1/6-find common denominators so in this came it would be 6.......
You need to first find the least common denominator first, worry about the numerator last.

2/3 - 1/2
least common denominator between 3 in 2/3 and 2 in 1/2 is 6. Why 6? Because it is the smallest number that both 3 and 2 goes into.

So, how do we make 3 a 6, and 2 a 6? Multiple 3*2 and 2*3. When you do this to the denominator, you also have to do this to the numerator.

2*2/(2*3) - 3*1/(2*3)
4/6 - 3/6
Now, we have an even denominator, and this now just becomes a subtraction problem.
4/6 - 3/6 = 1/6

You must find like denominators:

2/3 - 1/2 =
2/3 (2/2) - 1/2 (3/3) [This is the step where you get the denominators the same, in this case 6]
4/6 - 3/6 = 1/6

Your answer is 1/6

-
find common denominators so in this came it would be 6. so 4/6-3/6=1/6

-
1/2=3/6 2/3=4/6 4/6-3/6=1/6

-
(2/3) - (1/2)
= (4/6) - (3/6)
= 1/6

-
1/6
this is your answer
