a) 2x^2-3x=0 i beline this was your problem
x(2x-3)=0
so x=0 or 2x-3=0,x=3/2

b)3x^2-6=0
3 is the gcf so ,
3(x^2-2)=0
(x^2-2)=0
x^2=2
x=+-sqrt 2

c) x^2-3x-40=0 this is a general quadratic equation
x^2-8x+5x-40=0 as a general rule you split the coefficient of x into 2 such that their product is same as product of constant and coefficient of x^2
x(x-8)+5(x-8)=0
(x-8)(x+5)=0
so x=8,-5

2x^2 - 3x = 0 or, x(2x-3)=0
Product of 2 quantities is 0 so either x = 0 or 2x-3=0. if the latter = 0 then x = 3/2.
So, x = 0, 1.5

3x^2 - 6 = 0 or, 3(x^2 - 2)=0 or, x^2 - 2 = 0or, x^2=2 or, x = +-sqrt2

x^2 - 3x - 40 = 0or, x^2 - 8x + 5x -40 = 0 or, x(x-8) + 5(x-8) = 0 or, (x+5)(x-8)=0
so either x+5=0 or x-8=0
if x+5=0 then x=-5 and if x-8=0 then x=8 So x= 8, (-5)

b) +/- sqrt(2)
