Mathematical term for numbers or letters

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-10-30] [Hit: ]
a field that can contain both numbers and letters is called alphanumeric-Real Numbers. I think. Real numbers is the biggest category. Usually represented by R with another line on the left. IR kinda looks like that but merged together-Real? e is a letter and also equal to 2.......
What is the mathematical term for something that is either a number or letter?
eg. Natural numbers are positive integers
Integers are whole numbers
Thanks
