I think i've been doing it right, but my teacher says I'm not.

7m+8=71
subtract 8 from 71 and 8
7m=63
divide the 7s to 63 and 7
m=9

7m+8=71
Subtract 8 from both sides
7m=63
divide both sides by 7
m=9

7m=71-8
7m=63
m=63/7=9

71-8= 63. So now you saying what times 7 = 63? The answer is 9.
