P.S.A.B.C.D.......
I'm stuck on this in my physical science class take home final question. I really don't know how to set it up to solve it. Here are the answer choices. If you can can you please try to explain how you got the answer? that will be helper to me in the future. I'm also not that great on big words (please try to explain in less complicated words) -This is due tomorrow - its due on 12/15/11*
P.S. spell check works wonders* :D
-Once again Thank You for your help-

Alright Chelsea,

So, setting up the problem is not terribly relevant to sigfigs, but area = lengthxwidth, so the area is 25.84608

Then, for sigfigs in multiplication, you find the number with the fewest number of significant digits. In this case, that is 4.56, with 3. Therefore, you use three sigfigs.

So your answer is C, and the area is 25.8

-
To find area, you multiply L * W

Since these values are multiplied, this tells you.

When multiplying values, whatever value has the least number of sigfigs, that is the number of sigfigs of the product. Since 4.56 has 3 and 5.668 has 4,
3 is the correct answer.

Note that if they are added, you use the place with the lease precision.

So if you added 3 + 2.78 + 1.244, the resust would be 7 (the sum rounded to nearest whole number) since 3 is a whole number.
