Tf = temperature after mix of hot and cold water.C = specific heat of water.Because C is the same..........
A student is doing an experiment to determine the outcome of mixing 100 mL water that has a temperature of 90 degrees Celsius with 100 mL of water that has a temp of 30 degrees Celsius. What is the final temp of the water once the student has mixed the hot water and the cold water together?

I dont know how to set up the problem. I know I have to subtract the temps.. but then Im stuck.

Not really.

((100 mL) x (90 °C) + (100 mL) x (30 °C)) / (100 + 100 mL) = 60 °C

Energy conservation law's
.. mh.C.(Th - Tf) + mc.C.(Tc - Tf) = (mh + mc).C.Tf

Th = temperature of hot water
Tc = temperature of cold water
Tf = temperature after mix of hot and cold water.
C = specific heat of water.

Because C is the same.
..... mh.(Th - Tf) + mc.(Tc - Tf) = (mh + mc).Tf
..... 100(90 - Tf) + 100(30 - Tf) = (100 + 100).Tf
.. 9000 - 100Tf + 3000 - 100Tf = 200Tf
................................. 200Tf = 12000
......................................… Tf = 60°C
