I dont want you too feel the need to give me the answer!B) 3(2x + 3) + 2(2x - 3)-What you are doing is called the distributive property.Where the raised dot (•) indicates multiplication.Therefore, 2(x + 8) becomes 2x + 16 and 2(2x - 3) becomes 4x - 12.-You are welcome.......
I would appriciate it if any of you could just tell me how this works? I don't have a calculated mind like some people...but can u explain clearly what these mean? How can i get the answer? I don't want you too feel the need to give me the answer! I just need the basic (How to do this guide)

A) 2(x + 8) +3(x + 1)

B) 3(2x + 3) + 2(2x - 3)

What you are doing is called the distributive property. The rules for the distributive property can be shown by these two general equations:

a(b + c) = a•b + a•c

a(b - c) = a•b - a•c

Where the raised dot (•) indicates multiplication.

Therefore, 2(x + 8) becomes 2x + 16 and 2(2x - 3) becomes 4x - 12.

You are welcome.

I think you should check up on these fundamental laws.

1. Associative law

if a = b, then b = a

2. Commutative law

(a+b) + c = a + (b+c)

3. Distributive law

a( b + c ) = a*b + a*c [ u can replace '+' with '-' ]

In your questions provided , you will be using distributive law

btw * means multiply :-p :-)

A) 2(x + 8) + 3(x + 1)
Well if you have difficulty dealing with brackets, we can split the problem into two,
2(x + 8) = 2(x) + 2(8) = 2x + 16
and 3(x + 1) = 3(x) + 3(1) = 3x + 1
So,
2(x+8) + 3(x+1) = 2x + 16 + 3x + 1 = 5x + 17
=======

B) 3(2x + 3) + 2(2x-3)
= [3(2x) + 3(3)] + [2(2x) + 2(-3)]
= 6x + 9 + 4x - 6
= 10x + 3

2(x+4) means multiply each of the contents by 2 so it becomes 2x+8
2(x+4) actually means 2*(x+4)
do the same for all your bracketed items and then just simplify the result.

So if you have, say 3x+5x+ 4-2 This becomes 8x +2

-
A) it is basically (2 x X) + (2 x 8) + (3 x X) + (3 x 1)
= 2X + 16 + 3X + 3
= 5X + 19

no. :)
