Using (A+B)^2 = A^2 + 2AB + B^2 find the product of (3x+5)^2

The solution to this is 9x^2 + 30x + 25. Where does the 9x^2 come from? If you square 3x don't you end up with 9x and not 9x^2?

(3x)² = 3x * 3x = (3 * 3)(x * x) = 3² * x² = 9x²
