What is (3/8) divided by (1 1/8)

(3/8) divided by (1 1/8)
= (3/8) multiplied by (8/9)
= 24/72
= 1/3

Before you can divide anything, you need both fractions in the form of x/y. You can't have any mixed numbers like 1 and 1/8.

So change 1 and 1/8 to 9/8. They are the same thing, but added one 8 to the top part of the fraction.

So now you have 3/8 divided by 9/8.

You can do a trick to divide fractions and this is it, keep the first fraction the same, change the sign to a multiplication and flip the last fraction over.

You have 3/8 ÷ 9/8.

Can be changed to:
3/8 x 8/9.

Now you just multiply the fractions together! (Multiply the top parts, then the bottom parts)

3 x 8 = 24
8 x 9 = 72

= 24/72

Both can be divided by 6 to make:
4/12.

Then further divided by 4 to make:
1/3

And 1/3 is your answer!
