why do you need algebra in life?......

why do you need algebra in life?

-------------------------------------------------------

answers:
John say: Your not gonna use 95% of what you learn in school in real life. Algebra is useful for things like computers or construction, but if you can do simple math without a calculator then you will be fine.
-
Alana-Bethany say: Most schools will test you on it. So learn it while you can. who knows if you get a fun teacher you might like it.
-
Jeffrey K say: A person will not use algebra in their everyday life. (I am a math teacher telling you this!)
But algebra is used in many jobs in science, engineering, computers, finance, ... School prepares you for a job. You never need to dissect a frog or recite Shakespeare at home in everyday life either. If all you plan on doing is sitting at home watching TV, then you could end your education after kindergarten. All you will need to know in your life is how to get dressed and talk a few words and flush the toilet.
-
Clickman say: most people seldom use it as taught
it is a exercise in high school to keep you busy until you get a job in a mine or sewer work (sarcasm alert)
also to give teachers who can not get real job -- job security

problem is there is a use and the basic math is ignored in favor that all people attending college....

problem is the MATH does not pan out
15% of all high school grad ever attend any college
and only about 8% ever get a degree

those people in huge student debt to attend college failed to use that math (any math) to see they were foolishly borrowing money and spend it the way they did to get social science degree that will never get them a dime more than a high school grad in th real world

hint,, someone tells you they are giving 110% ... or got a 4.5 grade point average DID NOT DO THE MATH right .. 100% is all there is 4.0 is perfect 100% more of anything is based on creative writing not math

But I will give this
if I measure a wall to cut trim molding and tell you it is 60 inches and 8 sixteenths ... what does that come to in common language?

if you are converting a 40 hour a week pay period to monthly income based on $15.00 a hour how (formula) do you use to calculate that -- this is very simple but you would be surprised those who cannot do it.

the x y stuff is pretty unneeded unless you are in specialty field
Even the need for two years of collge algebra for a requirement to get a eletroinics degree is a waste of time for one formula they can teach you that 99% of the time you will never use ohm's law https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c...

Me I am a poor speller... but I am fiscally sound never went a day without work

being a engineer and being a electronics repairman is not even close to the same thing
but those who end up being a computer tech find out,, it is all parts swapping not engineering

if you go to MIT and stay away from the politics and party stuff and get a engineering degree you will need algebra and more
-
Como say: Algebra is used world wide in subjects such as :-
Physics
Electrical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Chemical Engineering
Electronics
Finance
Insurance
Gas Engineering
Insurance

To name just some.
-
Ronald 7 say: I have often thought the same
-
say: No you need fortnite
-
. say: The purpose of Algebra is to make it easy to state a mathematical relationship and its equation by using letters of the alphabet or other symbols to represent entities as a form of shorthand. Algebra then allows you to substitute values in order to solve the equations for the unknown quantities
-
Captain Matticus, LandPiratesInc say: You do realize that the machine you used to broadcast your ignorance, is able to function mainly because of algebra, right?
-
Andrea say: Im pretty sure everyone wants to be an algebra teacher
-
James say: I’m a mechanical engineer and I recently worked on a project that needed algebra. When I was your age I asked the same question. The answer is that you need to know many things in life to be prepared for your future. You need language, history, algebra, science, writing, art... because someday you might find out that you need that understanding to do your work. Math is not easy for most people... but it may be necessary in your career someday, so your teacher is trying to prepare you for that.
-
Adullah M say: In our every day life in finding the size of any right angle triangles by using this formula ie; a>2 + b>2 = c>2 while c = the length of diagonal.
-
say: You don't.
-
Vanvikki3 say: Yes you really need it in life.
-
mdseam say: Algebra is the Key to Advancement
-
Sanjay say: It is the Universal arithmetic - Newton
-
Tom S say: To calculate specific information based on the value of variables, for instance. Say you want to buy as many hot dogs as you can afford, you know they cost $3, and you have $12. Algebra will let you know the answer.
-
Lil Nite say: Cuz school makes u learn a bunch of bs u don't even need n life
-
Old Man Dirt say: In my profession I used algebra daily and if I couldn't I would never of had the job.
Actually while I had algebra in high school and college- it didn't make sense till I used it professionally.
If you seek to be employed in any field of work based on a science, algebra is a necessity. Even to spread sheet to simplify problem solving requires a working knowledge of algebra.
-
Fuhr say: You use it every single day, unless you're an invalid.
-
say: Algebra is used more if you chose certain jobs later on in life. If you want to be, for instance, an engineer than you need to be good at algebra and other math. Its not too prominent in life otherwise.
-
Idealist say: To find the unknowns. Plus, math teachers need Algebra because they have to teach.
-
The_Doc_Man say: In life, what you learn (if you pay attention) is methods of problem solving. Sure, you might not need too much algebra, but here is an oddball example that will answer your question.

Let's say you are a chef. Surely, you say, a chef would never use algebra. But the trick is, sometimes you don't recognize it when you use it. OK, chef - today you get a request to cater a party for 300 people, but you have recipes that are only good for 75 people at a time. Algebra is what you would use to figure out how much of each ingredient to buy in order to cook the right amount of food. OK, we ARE talking simple algebra - but the ability to upsize a recipe would use algebra.

Let's try something else. You run a clothing factory, which means you are a tailor and fashion designer. You would not guess that clothing makers would use algebra, would you? But today you and your designers come up with a neat new design for a high-fashion dress that has sequins and beads and some special fabrics. You know how much of each to make one such dress in size 3, but how much will you need for size 9? And how much of each will you need to make a complete line of this dress that has multiple sizes? And you need to send at least 3000 dresses to the stores that carry your clothing line. So how much fabric and beads and sequins will you need for the complete production run in those mixed sizes? You will use the principles of algebra to solve that problem.
-
wobafetty say: You've likely used it without knowing you're using it. Lol
-
Daniel say: Because you can use it nearly everywhere you go to solve problems and relate variables. Don't listen to people complaining about algebra saying it isn't useful, because it is. Persevere and learn it via youtube videos!
-
CogitoErgoCogitoSum say: Pleasure.
-
sparrow say: The average person may not need it, but the human race has used it to unravel the
mysteries of physics. Einstiein's theories (which required math), set the foundation for many
discoveries that allow the technology we use today. There were a lot of other people who
contributed (using math), too. It seems ironic you are using all of the technology, but are
unaware that math is what made it possible. Equations are used to predict other concepts
besides those that it was originally established on. Math is the language used to describe
the physical world.
-
james say: So you know how to look up the right page in the book & put that formula into your calculator to get the right answer to a math problem.
-
nbsale say: Nobody asks that about TV sitcoms, video games, rap music, movies, or People Magazine. And algebra is more useful than any of those (if less entertaining).

So why do people ask this about algebra, as if it has nothing to do with "life"???
-
Dan say: In case there's a couple trains leaving different cities and you want to know who gets there first.
-
say: Some jobs need it (e.g. engineer, computer programmer). But even if they don't, the process of learning algebra exercises your brain and gets you used to thinking logically and learning and applying new unfamiliar ideas. These are essential skills which can be applied later in life, though you probably won't realise you are doing it.
