In the student council election, one student received 90 of the 200 votes. What percent of the vote did this student receive?

answers:
Krishnamurthy say: 45%
-
Engr. Ronald say: 90/200 x 100% = 45% answer//
-
David say: Forty five percent

RR say: In this case you can do it in your head: A percentage is the number out of a hundred. If you have a number out of 200, you just have to divide it by 2:

90 out of 200 = 45 out of 100.

However, for more complicated numbers, turn it into a fraction and multiply by 100:

90/200 x 100/1
= 9000/200
= 90/2
= 45%
-
Elaine say: The formula for finding percent is given by the formula:
[PART / WHOLE] X 100 = %
{90/ 200} X 100
{9 / 20} X 100 = 45%
You can also use estimation to give you an approximation. Since 90 is < 1/2 of 200 you know the percentage will be < than 50%
-
Johnathan say: 90/200 = 9/20 = 45/100 -> 45%.
-
choko_canyon say: Reduce the amount of votes to 100, and the amount of votes received by the same fraction. That result will be how many votes the student received out of 100, which is the same as a percent, right? This isn't a difficult problem for anyone with a 5th grade grasp of math.

DWRead say: 45%

This sounds like an arithmetic question, but

who knows. If they have something like our electoral college

it could be...

any number.

Ray S say: The student received
90 out of 200 votes.       ← The phrase "out of" translates as the division bar.
  90     /     200                  ← ➊ If you have a calculator, punch in 90/200 to get 0.45.

➋ If you don't have a calculator, then know that percent
means per 100. So, divide top and bottom by 2 to get

Have a good one!

Jimmy C say: 45% in this case.
But if the student's name was Trump, he would be the winner.
