I have been accepted to a nursing degree starting in September and I am really looking forward to it but I am watching bizarre ER at the moment and i know it maybe sounds stupid but some of it makes me really squeamish. Is this normal even for a professional nurse?

Everyone occasionally sees something pretty unpleasant. What makes you a professional is that you do your job anyway. You can do it. After you have seen everything a couple of times, it is easier. When in the AF, we had a mid-air collision of two planes loaded with paratroopers. Those ejected from the plan were as thick as a phone book. Those still in the wreckage burned black. I was on the recovery team. The first body I went to put on a stretcher fell apart in my hands. I vomited for a while, then went back to work. Took me a while to get over those images and the smell. Nothing wrong with being human, and caring what has happened. BUT you still do your job.

Just about everybody has something that makes him squeamish. For me, it's penetrating injuries of the globe (eye). For my better half, an emergency nurse with 25 years' experience, it's some nasty sputum. And take my word: nobody likes a massive rectal bleed. You don't have to like it all, you only have to perform despite your sensibilities.

Not really, you do realise ER is a TV program not real life now don't you, in real life it's far more full on and in your face. if you can not take seeing it on TV which is dumbed down for the viewers then you will never hack it with the real thing, take my advice go look for a new career choice, your set to fail in this one before you start properly.
