Can you drink on Phenoxymetyl Penicillin?.. I have Tonsillitis, I came down with the symptoms on Friday afternoon after waking up on Saturday morning in agony I rang the out of hours GP who did a phone diagnosis and said " it doesn't sound like tonsillitis as it is very rare you get it as a adult after having it as a child" that was it no come down for a check up etc, so Sunday morning I woke up with Headache, Earache, having hot sweats, couldn't swallow and felt awful this time when I rang the GP she told me to get to the Hospital ASAP.. they put me on a 7 day course of Penicillin, taking 2000mg per day.
It's my 21st Birthday on Saturday and my course doesn't finish until Sunday! Obviously I will finish the course to make sure it actually works.. but can you Drink in moderation??

You are advised against drinking on Phenoxymethyl Penicillin. It will weaken the effects of the Penicillin and in rare cases you may experience an allergic reaction. You may also get drunk a lot easier than normal.
However if it were my 21st Birthday, I would stop taking the Penicillin on the Friday evening. By then I would hope to be clear of tonsillitis. And by Saturday night would hope to have most of it out of my system ready to enjoy my 21st!!
