Why is the answer 2 > 1? I would have thought that when you multiply both sides by x you get 2 is smaller than x.

u cant multiply x both side without knowing x is positive or negative.get arbitrage(reciprocal) of both side
so (x/2)>1
then multiply by 2
so X>2
when we multiply inequality by a negative number or taking the (reciprocal) the direction of inequality change.for a example
2<4
-2>-4 and (1/2)>1/4

2/x < 1
2 < 1x
2/1 < x
OR in other words :
x > 2

x=1/2
