What are the independent dependent & constant variables for my sons science project

He has come up with his own project:

Will my dog choose food or his favorite toy?

Well, the control is the dog since it is the same dog in both the trials. So, independent are the food and the toy since you are changing it and the dependent is the dog's choice, which you have no control over and is the deciding factor of the experiment.
