What happens when a train traveling at the speed of light turns on its headlights

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-06-07] [Hit: ]
Everyone here seems to think its news that you cant travel at the speed of light.HOWEVER, Im certain that the poser would, had she known the lack of intellectual power out there, have said IF IT WERE POSSIBLE TO TRAVEL AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT, etc.......
What happens when a train traveling at the speed of light turns on its headlights? If they illuminate anything, then wouldnt the light coming from then be going faster than the speed of light? Is it even possible for the train to go that fast in the first place?
Thoughtful answers only, please.

So much for getting thoughtful answers. Everyone here seems to think it's news that you can't travel at the speed of light. HOWEVER, I'm certain that the poser would, had she known the lack of intellectual power out there, have said IF IT WERE POSSIBLE TO TRAVEL AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT, etc. Idiots.

To answer the question, if you are traveling at the speed of light (C) and you turn on your headlights, you get an effect somewhat similar to spitting into the wind.

the first rule of relativity is that an object can consider itself to be stationary and all other objects are moving relative to its position. if a train moving at the speed of light turns on its lights, than the light produced by the headlights will move away from the train at the speed of light. however someone who is an outside observer would perceive things to happen differently.

the light will appear more blue to observers outside of the train, but it would appear white to the people in the train. time would be distorted and the outside observer would see the train as being infinitely thin. but basically the people in the train and people outside of the train would experience time differently.

It couldn't happen, but just for shits and giggles. The lights would be on, but in front of the train would still be dark. You wouldn't be able to see the lights coming either. The light wouldn't be able to travel fast enough to reach your retinas before the train passed. Anyone on the train would also die because it's moving to fast.

First off No a train can not travel at the speed of light, the rest of your question has my imagination going, I don't think you would see anything because the light would not be able to go ahead of you

No, a train cannot travel at the speed of sound, much less the speed of light. What, are you 10 years old?

in soviet russian, trains go faster than the speed of light.
