this means 160/540 g of steam = 0.to melt 49 kg of ice takes (49)(334E3) = 16370E3 J = 1.......
1. How much steam at 100 degrees Celsius must be condensed in order to melt 2 grams of ice and have the resulting water remain at 0 degrees Celsius? (Hint: The latent heat of fusion for ice is 80 cal/g and latent heat of vaporization for water is 540 cal/g)
2. How many joules are required to met 49 kg of ice at 0 degrees Celsius?

Please show the formula and the work on how you go the answer so that I would understand the question. Thank you ^^

since to melt 2 g of ice takes (2g)(80 cal/g) = 160 cal
and
this means 160/540 g of steam = 0.30 g of steam <= ANS-1
------
the heat of fusion of water = 334 J/g = 334E3 J/kg
to melt 49 kg of ice takes (49)(334E3) = 16370E3 J = 1.64E7 J <= ANS-2
