1. What force do the blades of a 4100 kg helicopter exert on the air when the helicopter is rising at 14m/s with speed increasing at 2.9m/s^2 ? (Assume that upward direction is positive.)

2. What force do the blades of a 4100 kg helicopter exert on the air when the helicopter is rising at a steady 12m/s ? (Assume that upward direction is positive.)

3. What force do the blades of a 4100 kg helicopter exert on the air when the helicopter is rising at 12m/s with speed decreasing at 2.9m/s^2 ? (Assume that upward direction is positive.)

For all three:

Sum of forces = mass*acceleration (this is F=MA, Newtons second law)

Assuming upward is positive and downward is negative:

1.) Blade_force - helicopter weight = mass of helicopter*acceleration.

Helicopter weight is negative because the gravitational force is downward.

2.) Same equation but the acceleration is zero because you are not changing speed.

Notice, when the acceleration is zero, Blade_force = helicopter weight

3.) Same equation, just change the sign of the acceleration.
